Water Filters Umina Beach & Woy Woy NSW
The Peninsula sits south of the Brisbane Water entrance. Older town centres, beachside fibros, and quiet bayside streets. We deliver filters and full systems to Peninsula homes every week, and the drive to our Wyong showroom is about 40 minutes via the M1 and Brisbane Water Drive.

Water on the Peninsula
Mains water is supplied by Central Coast Council. The source is Mangrove Creek Dam, treated and chlorinated to meet the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, with the same chemistry that reaches the rest of the Coast. Chloramine is not used.
The water arriving at the meter is clean. What changes the taste and appearance at the kitchen tap, especially in the older suburbs, is the pipework between the meter and the sink — older mains in the street, and older internal house plumbing.
Older homes and discoloured water
Woy Woy, Ettalong, Booker Bay, and parts of Umina have a lot of pre-1980 fibro and weatherboard housing stock. Many still have original galvanised internal plumbing. The mains arriving at the meter is fine, but galvanised pipework slowly sheds iron oxide and sediment, especially after upstream maintenance or a water-main flush.
The standard signs are occasional brown water at the cold tap, sediment in the kettle, or a metallic taste. The fix is a sediment pre-filter sized to the build-up:
- Single under-sink tap: a 10" 5 micron sediment cartridge ahead of a carbon block, in a twin housing. About $200 fitted by a plumber.
- Whole house: a 20" Big Blue sediment cartridge as the first stage, with carbon downstream. Sized correctly it handles the whole property and keeps sediment out of the hot-water system as well.
If the discolouration only shows up after Council does work on the street main, it usually clears in a day or two — but a sediment filter stops it reaching your taps in the meantime.
Beachside fittings
Umina, Ocean Beach, Ettalong, and Pearl Beach get serious salt aerosol. The water itself is not affected, but outdoor taps, hose bibs, and outdoor shower hardware corrode quickly. Specify 316 stainless steel or marine-grade brass on anything exposed.

Frequently asked questions
How does delivery work to the Peninsula?
Tracked delivery to Woy Woy, Umina, Ettalong, and Empire Bay is usually next business day on orders placed before 12pm AEST. Click & Collect from our Wyong showroom is also free — the drive is about 40 minutes via the M1 and Brisbane Water Drive, and orders during business hours are usually ready within two hours.
Why does my Woy Woy tap water sometimes look discoloured?
Older Peninsula suburbs — Woy Woy proper, Ettalong, parts of Booker Bay — have older galvanised plumbing in the house and sometimes older mains in the street. After a water-main flush or maintenance, sediment from those pipes gets stirred up and reaches the tap. A 5 micron sediment pre-filter ahead of a carbon stage clears it. For the whole house, a 20" Big Blue sediment cartridge is the right size.
Does the Peninsula get the same Central Coast water?
Yes. The mains supply for Woy Woy, Umina, Ettalong, and Empire Bay is Central Coast Council water, drawn primarily from Mangrove Creek Dam. The water is treated and chlorinated to the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. The chlorine taste is the most common complaint and a basic carbon filter removes it.
I'm in a beachside Umina fibro home — what setup makes sense?
Older fibros often have a mix of original galvanised plumbing and patches of newer copper or PEX. A two-stage under-sink (sediment + carbon) handles the kitchen for around $200 and is the right call if you only want the drinking tap filtered. If you want softer showers and chlorine off the rest of the outlets, step up to a whole-house system. Beachside outdoor fittings should be 316 stainless because of the salt air.
Do you install systems?
We sell the systems and the parts. Mains-pressure installs in NSW require a licensed plumber by law, and we focus on the supply side. We can recommend Peninsula plumbers who install our systems regularly — contact us with your suburb and the system you are buying for a referral. Under-sink filters with push-fit fittings are usually a DIY job.
