What 3-Way Means and Why It Matters

Standard RO installations require a second tap hole in the bench or sink for the dedicated filter dispensing tap. On stone benchtops, single-hole sinks, or new builds where the splashback is sealed, drilling a second hole is a non-trivial job — stone fabrication, potential warranty implications, and a permanent extra fixture in the visual line.

A 3-way mixer solves this by routing three water sources through one tap body:

• Hot — from your standard hot supply line, regulated through the temperature lever
• Cold — from your standard cold supply line
• Filtered — fed separately from the RO permeate line, dispensed through an internal channel that doesn't contact the hot/cold pathway

The RO water has its own dedicated lever or button to keep it physically separated from the hot/cold pathway — this matters because RO permeate doesn't carry chlorine, so it shouldn't mix with the chlorinated mains supply inside the tap.
