What a Dedicated RO Tap Does
Reverse osmosis systems can dispense their output two ways:
- Through a 3-way kitchen mixer that combines RO with hot and cold (more expensive, single tap hole)
- Through a dedicated separate tap like this one (cheaper, requires a second tap hole)
For most under-sink RO installations, a dedicated tap is the standard arrangement — it keeps the filtered water output completely independent of the kitchen mixer's mechanism, makes the install simpler, and costs significantly less than a 3-way replacement of the main kitchen tap.
The trade-off is one extra hole in the bench. On standard laminate or pre-drilled stainless sinks, that's a 5-minute job. On stone benchtops, factor in the cost of stone fabrication or look at the 3-way alternative.
