Whole House Filter + UV Steriliser | Big Blue

A Big Blue twin-housing whole-house water filter integrated with 254 nm UV-C disinfection — the entry-level point-of-entry filtration with built-in pathogen kill. The configuration uses two Big Blue 20" × 4.5" cartridges (sediment + carbon) before the water passes through the UV chamber.

Two-Stage Filtration + UV Disinfection

• Stage 1 — 5 micron PP sediment: captures silt, dirt, rust, and visible particulate. Critical pre-treatment for the UV chamber — suspended particles shadow pathogens from the UV light.
• Stage 2 — 5 micron coconut-shell carbon block: removes chlorine, taste, odour, and organic contaminants. Coconut-shell carbon has higher surface area per gram than coal-based carbon, giving better adsorption capacity at the same cartridge size.
• UV chamber: 254 nm UV-C germicidal lamp inactivates bacteria, viruses, and protozoan cysts. Chemical-free disinfection.

Maintenance Notes

Replace the UV lamp every 12 months even if it's still glowing — UV-C output drops below germicidal levels well before the lamp fails. Keep the sediment cartridge fresh: turbidity blocks UV penetration. Replace cartridges every 6–12 months on typical supplies.

Installation

Professional installation recommended. Connects to the cold supply line at the point of entry. Requires 240 V mains power at the install point for the UV chamber.
